Meet some of the recent members of the faculty.

Fabio Tavares is a Brazilian artist who became obsessed with the human body in action at an early age and started off as a competitive gymnast before running away at 15 to join the circus, where he got his first professional job, as an acrobat. Since moving to New York City in 1999, he’s collaborated and performed with a wide range of artists, including spending a decade as the associate artistic director of the Streb Extreme Action company in Brooklyn. Tavares is teaching Alexander Technique in the Dance Division and at Yale’s drama school.

History with Alexander Technique?

I was first introduced to AT in a contemporary dance class in Brazil in the mid ’90s. As a young actor, I had been encouraged to take a movement class, and that’s where it all happened. My life was completely changed after that. I’m a certified Alexander Technique and Klein Technique teacher as well as being a certified Zero Balancing practitioner.

Summer

Summer is definitely my favorite season. I went to Italy for a month to celebrate my birthday and spend time in Sicily and Puglia.

A highlight of teaching at Juilliard so far
