Admission Policies
Every applicant that wishes to enroll in the Music Advancement Program must perform an audition in person before members of the faculty and administration. Call-back auditions include a parent interview, where parents meet with administrators and faculty, and a theory placement exam. Applicants will be notified of their acceptance by the end of June. The application deadline for admission in the fall is in early April, with auditions held at the end of May. (Call the MAP office for exact dates.) All students applying for PATHS must write a one page statement answering “Why do you want to participate/continue in the PATHS program?”

Academic Standing
At the end of each semester, MAP students will receive a grade from each of their classroom and studio teachers. All faculty members use traditional letter grades. All MAP students are expected to maintain a minimum average of B in their primary instrument, and a minimum average of C in other coursework. Receipt of a transcript is official communication of a student’s progress. MAP studio faculty (private teachers) complete a full written evaluation each semester of their individual students.

Absences and Tardiness
MAP students are expected to attend all of their scheduled classes on time each Saturday. Faculty members take attendance at the start of each class and tardiness is noted. It is the responsibility of the parent(s) or guardian(s), in the event of student’s absences, to call both the Office of Educational Outreach and the studio faculty member (private teacher) as soon as possible.

Students will be allowed six (6) absences in the academic year. Additional absences may result in the student being placed on probation, or being dismissed from the program. We encourage students and their families to plan their year accordingly (i.e. SAT exams, public or private school auditions, and other entrance exams).

Re-admission to MAP After the First Year
Re-admission to MAP for the second year is not automatic. Families must submit a financial aid form by the deadline for the upcoming year. This officially notifies the office of a student’s interest for returning and begins a process to determine if a student will be recommended for re-admission by the faculty. Only when a student has shown satisfactory progress and commitment in all areas of study, will s/he be considered for re-admission for a second year of study.

If a student has not shown a satisfactory degree of commitment to the program, or is on probationary or warning status, s/he may not be re-admitted. The MAP administrators do their best to make early diagnoses of academic, attendance, or attitude problems; however, it is up to the student and his/her parents to communicate with the teachers and make improvements in all aspects of performance.
