Letters to the Editor | by Tom Putnam | In Memory of a Great Teacher
I had Stanley Wolfe (“Remembering a Mentor,” September 2009) for my first L&M class in 1960-61 and what I remember to this day is his teaching of Benjamin Britten’s opera The Turn of the Screw. I believe I can still sing the 12-tone theme from the opera, and maybe even sound like the horn! I certainly could then—we all could. That’s what Stanley Wolfe did for his students; he made us want to sing the music, to know it that well. Tom Putnam (’63, clarinet) Buffalo, N.Y. The Juilliard Journal welcomes letters to the editor.
