| Festival Explores China’s Cultural Renaissance
by EVAN FEIN Thirty years ago, the arts in China stood perilously close to annihilation, the primary victim of the Cultural Revolution. Since the end of that dark chapter of the country’s history, however, Chinese culture has undergone a remarkable renaissance. | Drama Takes on George Bernard Shaw
by AMELIA PEDLOW George Bernard Shaw himself recognized that his play Arms and the Man “really would not stand … unless the company [performing it] was very fascinating.” Well, a fourth-year company more fascinating than he could have hoped for has been assembled, and this month, the Drama Division launches its mainstage season with his masterpiece, which is set in Bulgaria during the 1885 Serbo-Bulgarian War.
